B. A change in level of consciousness can be a precursor to altered central nervous system (CNS) function (including seizures, coma, delirium, bizarre behavior, and/or dilated pupils), which is the hallmark of heatstroke. Heat exhaustion can be accompanied by a high body temperature, dehydration, and increased liver transaminase levels; if it is severe and left untreated, it may progress to heatstroke. However, a CNS change indicates presence of heatstroke which requires immediate nursing intervention.
