If you're administering dopamine to a patient and it isn't raising the patient's blood pressure as you expected, investigate your patient's pH. A pH level below 7.1 (as can happen in severe metabolic acidosis) causes resistance to vasopressor therapy. Correct the pH level, and dopamine may prove to be more effective.
