The patient with acute pancreatitis can rapidly develop complications, especially if the patient has pancreatic necrosis. Monitor closely for signs and symptoms of these complications:

• acute pseudocyst
• intra-abdominal infection
• pancreatic necrosis
• hemorrhage.
