The clinical practice of anesthesiology continues to evolve in tandem with rapid advances in surgical and diagnostic procedures prompting the production of this new edition of Yao & Artusio's Anesthesiology: Problem-Oriented Patient Management. The remarkable popularity of the first nine editions in the anesthesiology community both in the United States and abroad encouraged us to update and expand its subject matter. The tenth edition is written to further improve anesthesia management for sophisticated modern surgery and other procedures requiring anesthesia.

As with our previous editions, Yao & Artusio's Anesthesiology: Problem-Oriented Patient Management, Tenth Edition was written to present important clinical entities covering the most common critical anesthetic problems encountered in daily practice. It is intended to provide logical and scientific fundamentals for individualized patient management.

In its tenth edition, Yao & Artusio's Anesthesiology: Problem-Oriented Patient Management is organized by organ systems into 12 sections consisting of 63 chapters. The book follows the successful format of previous editions. Each chapter begins with a brief case presentation, followed by essential problems of each disease covering four areas: (1) pathophysiology and differential diagnosis, (2) preoperative evaluation and preparation, (3) intraoperative management, and (4) postoperative anesthetic management. Using a question-and-answer format, the book is designed to stress anesthetic problems and to give anesthesia providers the opportunity to organize their own ideas for individualized patient care. A reasonable answer, with updated references, follows each question.

To maintain the fresh quality of the textbook, the tenth edition has been updated with significant new content including contributions by new authors. The text originally reflected the clinical experience of the Department of Anesthesiology at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/ Weill Cornell Medical Center. In this edition, experts from other prestigious institutions share their evidence-based experience and practice to make this book even more universally applicable. The book is prepared for the education of anesthesia trainees as well as anesthesia practitioners; it also serves as a review source for continuing education. The highly successful question-and-answer format and the updated content and references enhance the educational value and clinical applicability of this established and popular textbook.
