Infants younger than 2 years do not routinely require preoperative anxiolytics or opioids. An infant with a compromised airway and abnormal circulation cannot tolerate any degree of respiratory depression; therefore, no sedative premedication should be given. Because a fiberoptic intubation is planned, glycopyrrolate should be given preoperatively for its antisialagogue activity.
