• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the product
• Drug-induced, hemolytic, and other anemias
• Significant hepatic impairment
• Significant renal impairment
• Early pregnancy

• Metaxalone may enhance the effects of alcohol and other CNS depressants
• Administer the drug with extreme caution in patients with preexisting liver damage; perform serial liver function studies in these patients
• Administration of metaxalone with food may enhance general CNS depression; elderly patients are more susceptible to this CNS effect
• False-positive Benedict’s tests, due to an unknown reducing substance, have been reported. A glucose-specific test will differentiate findings
• Metaxalone may impair mental and/or physical abilities required for performing hazardous tasks like driving a vehicle or operating machinery, especially when used with alcohol or other CNS depressants

• Advise patients to refrain from performing hazardous tasks such as operating machinery or driving a motor vehicle, especially when metaxalone is used with alcohol or other CNS depressants

Pregnancy Category: Unknown; avoid use in pregnancy (especially in early pregnancy)

Breastfeeding: Safety unknown. As per manufacturer's data, nursing should not be undertaken while a patient is on a drug as many drugs are excreted in human milk.

• CNS: Drowsiness, dizziness, headache, nervousness
• GI: Nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal upset
• HEMA: Leukopenia, hemolytic anemia
• HEPA: Jaundice
• IMMU: Hypersensitivity reaction, rash with or without pruritus

• Skeletal muscle relaxants; exact mechanism of action is unknown; probably due to general central nervous system depression
• Metabolized by liver; CYP450: Unknown
