Adult Dosing
Skeletal muscle relaxation
- Initial dose: 1500 mg PO qid for 2-3 days
- Maintenance dose: 1000 mg PO qid, alt 750/1500 mg qid/tid
- Severe conditions 8000 mg/day may be given
- Max: 8000 mg/day
Adjunctive treatment of tetanus
- Initial dose: 1000-2000 mg PO q6 hr
- Total adult oral dosage: 24 g/day PO
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients <16 yrs of age have not been established

- Methocarbamol may produce a general CNS depressant effect, caution should be exercised when using alcohol and other CNS depressant drugs during therapy
- Safety related to adverse effects on fetal development have not been established
- Do not use in pregnant women or women with childbearing potential and evaluate the risk-benefit ratio prior to administering the drug because fetal and congenital abnormalities have been reported after in utero exposure to methocarbamol
- Caution should be exercised while handling a machinery or driving a motor vehicle because methocarbamol may impair mental or physical abilities required for such tasks

- Pregnancy
- Elderly patients
- Alcohol use
- Concurrent CNS depressants drugs
Supplemental Patient Information
- Advise patients not to perform hazardous tasks which require mental alertness such as operating machinery or driving a motor vehicle
