Rx:
Must make dx first, then pick appropriate tx; stop smoking is first rx for all
- URI; rx w Actifed bid × 1 wk, or naproxen 500 mg po tid × 5 d, or iprotropium nasal ii tid-qid × 4 d
- Allergic rhinitis; rx w nonsedating antihistamines
- Bacterial sinusitis if tooth pain, poor transillumination, purulent nasal d/c; rx w Actifed, oxymetazoline spray bid × 5 d, and/or antibiotics vs H. flu and strep pneumo × 3 wk if sx <4 wk
- COPD, rx as usual
- Whooping cough, no dx tests; if in community rx w erythromycin 500 mg qid × 14 d
