Adult Dosing
Cataract surgery
- Instill 1 gtt in eye(s) qid
- Start 24 hrs after surgery and continue for 2 wks
Corneal refractive surgery
- Instill 1-2 gtts in eye(s) qid
- Start 1 hr prior to surgery, then repeat within 15 mins of surgery; continue qid up to 3 days after surgery
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established

- The refractive stability of patients undergoing corneal refractive procedures and treated with diclofenac has not been established; monitor for a year
- Diclofenac increases bleeding time; reports of increased bleeding of ocular tissue in conjunction with surgery
- Caution is advised while the patient is on NSAIDs as it may result in delayed healing, keratitis, epithelial breakdown, corneal thinning, corneal infiltrates, corneal erosion, corneal ulceration, and corneal perforation
- Discontinue the use of topical NSAIDs on the evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown
- Topical NSAIDS should not be used more than 24 hours prior to surgery and beyond 14 days after surgery due to increased risk of corneal adverse events
- Use cautiously in known bleeding conditions
