Alveolar Dead Space

Physiologic/Alveolar dead space can be measured using Bohr's method.  The equation is:

Vd = Vt * (PaCO2 - PeCO2)/PaCO2

Vd = Dead space volume (mL)

Vt = Tidal volume (mL)

PaCO2 = Pressure in mmHg of arterial CO2

PeCO2 = Pressure in mmHg of expired CO2 (End tidal CO2 on capnography)
