Pediatric Dosing

Immunization against influenza virus (Fluzone Quadrivalent)

• Children 6-35 month
• 0.25 mL IM, may followed by a second 0.25 mL dose after 4 weeks for those who are receiving the influenza vaccine for the first time or were vaccinated for the first time last season with only 1 dose

• Children 36 months-8 yrs
• 0.5 mL IM, may followed by a second 0.5 mL dose after 4 weeks for those who are receiving the influenza vaccine for the first time or were vaccinated for the first time last season with only 1 dose

• Children >9 yrs
• 0.5 mL IM x 1 annually

• Children 3-8 years
• 0.5 mL IM, may followed by a second 0.5 mL dose after 4 weeks for those who are receiving the influenza vaccine for the first time or were vaccinated for the first time last season with only 1 dose

• Active immunization against influenza disease caused by influenza virus subtypes A and type B contained in the vaccine

• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the product
• Severe allergic reaction (e.g., anaphylaxis) to any component of the vaccine, including egg protein, or after previous dose of any influenza vaccine

• Persons known to have experienced Guillain-Barré syndrome within 6 wk after a previous influenza vaccination should not receive influenza virus vaccine, unless the benefit outweighs the risk
• Appropriate medical treatment and supervision must be available to manage possible anaphylactic reactions which may occur following administration
• Immunocompromised persons, including those receiving immunosuppressive therapy may have a reduced antibody response to inactivated influenza vaccine and may remain susceptible despite immunization
• Fever and febrile seizures have been reported in children predominantly below the age of 5 years, do not administer unless the benefit outweighs the risk
• Influenza vaccination may not protect all persons
• Syncope reported with injectable vaccines including Fluarix Quadrivalent
• Tip of syringe may contain natural rubber latex which may cause allergic reactions in latex-sensitive individuals

Breastfeeding: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that vaccines given to a nursing mother does not affect breastfed infants and breastfeeding is not a contraindication to influenza vaccine.
