Stomach injury-trauma grading
Stomach injuries are graded I-V with increasing severity having higher grading.
Grade I
- Stomach contusion or hematoma
- Stomach partial thickness laceration
Grade II
- Stomach laceration <2 cm in gastroesophageal junction or pylorus
- Stomach laceration <5 cm in proximal 1/3rd of the stomach
- Stomach laceration <10 cm in distal 2/3rd of the stomach
Grade III
- Stomach laceration >2 cm in gastroesophageal junction or pylorus
- Stomach laceration >5 cm in proximal 1/3rd of the stomach
- Stomach laceration >10 cm in distal 2/3rd of the stomach
Grade IV
- Stomach injury with either tissue loss or devascularization of <2/3rds of the stomach
Grade V
- Stomach injury with either tissue loss of devascularization of >2/3rds of the stomach
Note to advance one grade for multiple injuries up to grade III.
