Adult Dosing

Immunization against measles, mumps & rubella

• 0.5 mL SC x 1 to the individuals known to have susceptible risk

• Adults born before 1957 are considered immune to measles and mumps; all adults born in 1957 or later should have documentation of 1 or more doses of MMR vaccine unless contraindicated, or laboratory evidence of immunity to each of the 3 diseases
• Pregnant women who do not have evidence of immunity should receive MMR vaccine upon completion or termination of pregnancy and before being discharged
• 2nd dose is recommended in following conditions
• Recent exposure
• Occupational risk
• Previously vaccinated with killed measles vaccine
• International travelers

Pediatric Dosing

Immunization against measles, mumps & rubella

• 0.5 mL SC at 12-15 months of age, followed by revaccination prior to elementary school entry at 4-6 years of age
• Safety and effectiveness of measles vaccine in infants < 6 months have not been established

• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the product
• Hypersensitivity to gelatin
• Hypersensitivity to neomycin
• Pregnancy
• Blood dyscrasias
• Leukemia
• Lymphoma
• Malignant neoplasms affecting the bone marrow or lymphatic system
• Immunosuppressive therapy
• Family history of congenital or hereditary immunodeficiency
• Primary and acquired immunodeficiency syndromes
• Cellular immune deficiencies
• Hypogammaglobulinemic states
• Dysgammaglobulinemic states
• Active untreated tuberculosis
• Acute febrile illness

• Administer cautiously in children with a history of cerebral injury, seizures or any other condition in which stress due to fever should be avoided. Healthcare providers must be alert to the temperature elevations that may occur following vaccination
• Caution should be exercised when administering M-M-R live vaccine to children with egg allergy or contact hypersensitivity to neomycin
• Persons with a history of anaphylactic anaphylactoid, or other immediate reactions (e.g., hives, swelling of the mouth and throat, difficulty breathing, hypotension, or shock) subsequent to egg ingestion may be at an enhanced risk of immediate-type hypersensitivity reactions after receiving vaccines containing traces of chick embryo antigen
• Cautiously evaluate the potential risk-to-benefit ratio before considering vaccination in children with thrombocytopenia or in those who developed thrombocytopenia after vaccination with a previous dose of M-M-R-V live vaccine
• Safety and efficacy of M-M-R live vaccine for use in children known to be infected with human immunodeficiency viruses have not been established
• Defer vaccination for at least 3 months following blood or plasma transfusions, or administration of immune globulins (IG)
• Administration of immune globulins concurrently with M-M-R II may interfere with the expected immune response

Breastfeeding: According to the CDC and other health organizations, M-M-R live vaccine given to a nursing mother does not affect the safety of breastfeeding for mothers or breastfed infants. Breastfeeding is not a contraindication to measles, mumps and rubella virus vaccine. Breastfed infants should be vaccinated according to the routine recommended schedules.
