- Diazepam produces CNS depression. Caution patients against engaging in hazardous activities requiring mental alertness, such as operating machinery, driving a motor vehicle, or riding a bicycle
- Potential for a synergistic CNS-depressant effect when used simultaneously with alcohol or other CNS depressants must be considered
- Prolonged CNS depression has been observed in neonates treated with diazepam. Use not recommended in children under six months of age
- It may be used in patients with open angle glaucoma who are receiving appropriate therapy but is contraindicated in acute narrow angle glaucoma
- Use cautiously in the elderly, may accumulate and lead to psychomotor impairment
- Monitor CBC, LFTs if prolonged therapy
Cautions: Use cautiously in
Pregnancy Category:D
Breastfeeding: Safety unknown. Due to long half-life of diazepam and nordiazepam, timing breastfeeding with respect to the dose would be of little benefit in reducing infant exposure. Other agents should be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
