Migraine Screening Tool

This brief screening tool, based upon just 3 of the 9 diagnostic screening questions available, had a positive predictive value of 93%, sensitivity of 81% and specificity of 75% for identifying patients who on rigorous evaluation of their headaches are finally diagnosed as migraine.

The 3 questions asked are (scored if present):

  • Is the headache associated with nausea?

 

  • Is the headache associated with photophobia?

 

  • Has there been disability or work limitation of 1 or more days every 3 months due to headache?

Each positive response receives 1 point (Score range is 0-3 pts)

0-1 pts = Negative Screening for Migraine

2-3 pts = Positive Screening for Migraine
