Chronic asthma

• 20 mg NEB qid
• Note: Gradually decrease dosage to bid after patient is stabilized

• It is not indicated for the treatment of status asthmaticus
• Closely monitor for hypersensitivity reactions

• Very severe bronchospasm has been reported with the administration of therapy
• Symptoms of asthma may recur if cromolyn sodium is reduced below the recommended dosage or discontinued
• Avoid mixing with other drugs in nebulizer as drug stability and safety have not been established
• To be used as directed by the physician. As it is a preventive medication, 4 weeks of continuous therapy may be required for optimum effects to be achieved
• Use a power-driven nebulizer with an adequate airflow rate, equipped with a suitable face mask or mouthpiece

Breastfeeding: Safety unknown. Although no published data exist on the use of cromolyn during lactation, maternal milk levels are likely to be very low and it is expected to be poorly absorbed from the infant's gastrointestinal tract. An expert panel considers use of cromolyn to be acceptable during breastfeeding.
