[Outline]
- Reduction in growth velocity may occur when intranasal corticosteroids are administered to pediatric pts
- Higher than recommended doses of nasal corticosteroids may cause signs or symptoms of hypercorticism and/or suppression of HPA function
- Ritonavir can greatly increase plasma concentration of fluticasone propionate. Concomitant use should be avoided, unless the potential benefit to the patient outweighs the risk of systemic corticosteroid side effects
Cautions: Use cautiously in
- Diabetes
- Tuberculosis
- Local or systemic infection, untreated
- Measles/varicella exposure
- Systemic corticosteroid therapy (should not be abruptly discontinued when intranasal therapy is started)
- Recent nasal trauma, septal ulcers, or surgery (wound healing may be impaired by nasal corticosteroids)
- Recurrent epistaxis
- Glaucoma
- Cataracts
- Adrenal suppression
- Adrenal insufficiency
- Hypercorticism
- Elderly patients
- Lactation
Pregnancy Category:C
Breastfeeding: It is not known if fluticasone is excreted in breastmilk. Manufacturer advises caution.
