14% of febrile children under age 2 yr in ER have it; cause of 1/3 of febrile seizures under age 2 yr (Nejm 1994;331:432; 1992;326:1145)

Signs and Symptoms ⬆ ⬇

Sx:High fever to 105°F (40.5°C) × 3-4 d, defervesce, then rash in 10%

Si:Viral exanthem, fever

Rx:Symptomatic
