In children, urine output is most adequately assessed by stating the amount of urine produced per hour over a designated period of time. ( Adults can usually just be reported as mL/hr as the difference in body weight among adults does not vary as greatly as a percentage as it does in children)
Urine output in mL/kg/hr =
(Total Urine Output/Weight in Kg)/# of hours
Minimum acceptable output:
Adult: 0.5-1.0 mL/kg/hr
Child: 1.0-2.0 mL/kg/hr
