Causes of AV Block

Causes of temporary block

  • Myocardial infarction (MI), usually inferior wall MI
  • Digoxin (Lanoxin) toxicity
  • Acute myocarditis
  • Calcium channel blockers
  • Beta-adrenergic blockers
  • Cardiac surgery

Causes of permanent block

  • Changes associated with aging
  • Congenital abnormalities
  • MI, usually anteroseptal MI
