Changes in the ST Segment

It is critically important to closely monitor the ST segment on a patient’s ECG in order to detect myocardial ischemia or infarction and to limit damage.

ST-segment depressionST-segment elevation
An ST segment is considered depressed when it is 0.5 mm or more below the baseline. A depressed ST segment may indicate myocardial ischemia or digoxin toxicity.
Observe the ST segment for depression, such as upsloping, downsloping, or a horizontal configuration.

An ST segment is considered elevated when it’s 1 mm or more above the baseline. An elevated ST segment may indicate myocardial injury.
