FNHTRs are defined as a temperature increase of more than 1 °C and may have accompanying chills and rigors. They are seldom dangerous and may be caused by an antibody–antigen reaction. FNHTR is a diagnosis of exclusion, after eliminating other febrile reactions, such as TRALI, AHTR, and sepsis. The condition is not life-threatening.
