Monitoring in Hypothermia

Continuous display

  • ECG
  • Arterial oxygen saturation by pulse oximeter
Check hourly
  • Conscious level until fully conscious
  • Rectal temperature
  • Respiratory rate
  • Blood pressure: if systolic BP falls below 100 mmHg reduce the rate of rewarming and give further IV fluid
  • Central venous pressure (NB do not put in a central line until core temperature is >30°C as it may precipitate ventricular fibrillation)
  • Urine output
Check four-hourly

Blood glucose
