Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment
The Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) is a multidimensional, interdisciplinary diagnostic process to determine the medical, psychological and functional capabilities of an older person in order to develop a coordinated and integrated plan for treatment and long-term follow-up.
Whilst integrating standard medical diagnostic evaluation, CGA emphasizes problem solving, functional status and prognosis, with the aim of restoring independence and alleviating distress.
Typically, CGA involves a team of people from various disciplines (geriatric medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing) or a combination of these, working towards a shared common goal using standardized assessment tools, pathways and documentation.
