Causes of Sinus Bradycardia

Cardiovascular
  • Chronic sinus node dysfunction (due to idiopathic degenerative/fibrotic change in sinus node)
  • Acute sinus node dysfunction due to ischaemia (typically in inferior myocardial infarction; sinus node artery arises from right coronary artery in 90%)
  • Manoeuvres triggering high vagal tone, for example suctioning of airway
  • Vasovagal syncope
  • Carotid sinus hypersensitivity
