Criteria for Transplantation in Acute Liver Failure (ALF) (King's College Hospital)*

ALF due to paracetamol poisoning

ALF due to other cause

  • INR >6.5
Or any three of the following features:
  • Non-A, non-B viral hepatitis, drug-induced, Wilson's or indeterminate aetiology of ALF
  • Time from jaundice to encephalopathy >7 days
  • Age <10 or >40
  • INR >3.5
  • Serum bilirubin >200 micromol/L

Absolute contraindication to transplantation

  • AIDS
  • Extrahepatic malignancy
  • Advanced cardiopulmonary disease
  • Cholangiocarcinoma
