Focused Assessment of the Patient with Suspected Stroke

History
  • Pattern of onset
  • Time of onset or when last known to be well
  • Medication and compliance (particularly anticoagulants)
  • Previous level of function and comorbidities

Examination

  • General – hydration, temperature
  • Cardiovascular – blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm, peripheral circulation, carotid bruits
  • Respiratory – oxygenation, evidence of infection
  • Alimentary – swallowing
  • Skin – pressure areas
  • Urological – bladder, continence
