Viral meningitis

Partially treated pyogenic bacterial meningitis

Other bacterial infections – tuberculosis (Appendix 68.1), leptospirosis, brucellosis, syphilis, listeriosis

Fungal (cryptococcal) infection (Appendix 68.2)

Parameningeal infection – brain abscess or subdural empyema

Neoplastic infiltration

Viral encephalitis (Chapter 69) may give a similar CSF picture.
