Adult Dosing
Cryoprin-Associated Periodic Syndromes (CAPS)
- > 40 kgs: 150 mg SC every 8 weeks
- 15 kg to 40 kg, 2 mg/kg every 8 weeks
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and effectiveness in patients under 2 years of age have not been established
Cryoprin-Associated Periodic Syndromes (CAPS)
4 yrs- 15-40 kgs: 2 mg/kg SC q8 wks; may be increased to 3 mg/kg if inadequate response
- Max: 120 mg/dose
Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA)
- 2 yrs
- 7.5kg: 4mg/kg SC q4 wks
- Max: 300 mg/dose

- Canakimumab should be used only by physicians who are fully familiar with the efficacy/safety profile and have sufficient of Cryopyrin-Associated Periodic Syndromes (CAPS)
- Risk of serious infections due to interleukin-1 blockade; use with caution in patients with underlying risks of infections, history of recurring infections
- Risk of reactivation of latent tuberculosis/atypical opportunistic infections
- Concurrent immunosuppressants may increase risk of malignancies; use with caution
- Screen patients for latent tuberculosis before starting therapy; safety not established
- It may cause nasopharyngitis, diarrhea, influenza, headache and nausea
- Do not initiate treatment in patients with active infection requiring medical intervention
- Do not administer live vaccines concurrently; give all recommended vaccines before initiating therapy
- Monitor patients for development of opportunistic infections
- Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is a life-threatening condition that may occur in patients with rheumatic disorders, especially SJIA. Clinical studies do not indicate an increased incidence of MAS in SJIA patients; however, a definitive conclusion cannot be made
