• 6-9 yrs or weight <60 lbs: 10 mg PO tid-qid

• Exercise extreme care with respect to the administration of additional sympathomimetic agents
• Expect significant changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in some patients after using any beta adrenergic bronchodilator

• Cardiac arrhythmias
• Hyperthyroidism
• Diabetes mellitus
• Patients who are unusually responsive to sympathomimetic amines
• Convulsive disorders

• Advise patients to avoid using this drug more often than prescribed. Instruct them to promptly consult a physician on persistence of symptoms

Breastfeeding: Safety unknown; no published literature exist on the use of metaproterenol by oral or by inhalation during lactation, Data from the related drug, terbutaline, indicate that very less amount of drug is excreted into breastmilk. • RESP: Bronchoconstriction, paradoxical bronchospasm, exacerbation of asthma
• CNS: Nervousness, tremor, dizziness, headache
• GI: GI distress, nausea
• MISC: Acute hypersensitivity, flushing

• Sympathomimetic, bronchodilator; exhibits stimulation through beta adrenergic receptors of intracellular adenyl cyclase, increases c-AMP levels, relaxes bronchial smooth muscle and inhibits mediators of immediate hypersensitivity especially from mast cells
