• Besifloxacin is for topical ophthalmic use only. It should not be injected subconjunctivally, nor should it be introduced directly into the anterior chamber of the eye
• Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. If super-infection occurs, discontinue use and institute alternative therapy
• Advise patients not to wear contact lenses if they have signs or symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis
• Patients should avoid wearing contact lenses during the course of treatment

• Lactation
• Pediatric population (safety not established for patients < 1 yr of age)

Breastfeeding: Caution advised as safety is unknown

• LOCAL: Conjunctival erythema, blurred vision, eye pain, eye irritation and pruritis
• CNS: Headache

• Besifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone. It inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV
• For patients receiving bilateral drops tid, there was minimal systemic absorption
• Metabolized by liver
• Excretion: Unknown
• Plasma half life: 7 hrs
