• Do not use guaifenesin for persistent or chronic cough such as cough occurring with smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema, or for cough accompanied by excessive phlegm
• Persistent cough may be indicative of a serious condition, hence treat the condition accordingly
• Do not use in children under 4 yrs of age, as they are at increased risk of overdosage and toxicity

Pregnancy Category:C

Breastfeeding: No studies have been conducted on the excretion of guaifenesin in breastmilk or its effect on breastfed infants. As it is given to infants as young as 2 month of age, it is unlikely that usual maternal doses in milk are as large as those given directly to infants and would harm the breastfed infants especially in infants over 2 months of age. Avoid the use of products with high alcohol content while nursing.
