Cautions: Use cautiously in
Pregnancy Category:C
Breastfeeding: Because of its relatively extensive excretion into breastmilk and minimal reported experience during breastfeeding, other beta-blocking agents may be preferred for systemic use, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant. With betaxolol eye drops, it is not likely that sufficient amounts would be present in milk to affect the infant. To reduce the amount of drug that reaches breastmilk, place pressure over the tear duct by the corner of the eye for 1 minute or more and remove the excess with an absorbent tissue; based upon LactMed database (available at http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT last accessed 15 March 2011). Manufacturer advises caution.
