Adult Dosing
Abdominal Distention
- Initial dose 5 units (0.25 mL) IM; increase to 10 units (0.5 mL) PRN
- Repeat the dose at 3-4 hrs intervals if necessary
Abdominal Roentgenography
- 2 injections of 10 units (0.5 mL) IV x 2 minutes and 30 minutes before films are exposed
Diabetes Insipidus
- 5-10 units (0.25-0.5 mL) SC/IM bid-tid
Note: Therapy may also be administered intranasally on cotton pledgets or as a nasal spray
Pediatric Dosing

- Children may be given proportionately reduced doses

- Children may be given proportionately reduced doses

- Avoid vasopressin in patients with vascular disease, especially disease of the coronary arteries; in such patients, small doses may precipitate anginal pain and with larger doses, the possibility of myocardial infarction
- Therapy may produce water intoxication; signs of drowsiness, listlessness, and headaches should be recognized to prevent terminal coma and convulsions
- Caution should be exercised when therapy is used in presence of epilepsy, migraine, asthma, heart failure, or any state in which a rapid addition to extracellular water may produce hazard for an already overburdened system
- Electrocardiograms (ECG) and fluid and electrolyte status evaluation is recommended at periodic intervals during therapy
