- Patients may develop IgG antibody to alglucerase during the first year of therapy. Such patients have a higher risk of hypersensitivity reaction. Monitor periodically for IgG antibody formation
- If hypersensitivity reactions occur take a serum sample for tryptase levels and complement activation within two hours of the event after appropriate treatment of the symptoms and subsequent testing for antibody should be done
- Administer therapy under physicians knowledgeable in the management of patients with Gaucher disease
- Premedicate patients with antihistamines and reduce rate of infusion for continued use to avoid hypersensitivity reactions
- Use cautiously in patients with androgen sensitive malignancies, e.g., prostate cancer and patients with known prior allergies to hCG
- Drug administration may cause some viral disease. Assess benefits and the risks of treatment prior to use
