• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the product or lincomycin
• Hx of regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis, pseudomembranous colitis or antibiotic-associated colitis

• Diarrhea, bloody diarrhea and colitis including pseudomembranous colitis have been reported following topical or systemic use of clindamycin
• C.difficile associated diarrhea has been reported with topical use of clindamycin; discontinue therapy in cases of severe diarrhea and institute proper therapy
• Management with fluids and electrolytes, protein supplementation and treatment with an antibacterial drug clinically effective against C. difficile colitis in moderate to severe cases of diarrhea
• Gel is indicated for topical use only; not for ophthalmic use
• Concomitant acne therapy with the use of peeling, desquamating, or abrasive agents should be used with caution because a possible cumulative irritancy effect may occur
• Use of antibiotic agents may be associated with the overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms; discontinue use of this medication and take appropriate measures if this occurs
• Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes
• Avoid combination use of clindamycin and erythromycin containing products

Pregnancy Category:C

Breastfeeding: Safety unknown; due to minimal systemic absorption of clindamycin, it would be not expected to adversely affect the breastfed infant. Topical application to the nipple may cause diarrhea in the infant. This information is based upon LactMed database (available at http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT last accessed 14 December 2010). According to the manufacturer data it is not known whether this topical gel is secreted into human milk after topical application. Due to the potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants, manufacturer recommends discontinuation of nursing or discontinuation of drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
