Breastfeeding: Safety unknown; adverse reactions may occur due to presence of active metabolite in infant serum. Prefer an alternative agent especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant. May not be a reason to discontinue breastfeeding if doxepin is required by the mother of an older infant; carefully monitor infant for excessive sedation and adequate weight gain. May be excreted in human milk following topical application. Exhibits potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants.
