Adult Dosing

Scabies

• Massage 5% cream x 1
• 30 gm can be used in average adult
• Leave for 8-14 hours and then should be removed by washing (shower or bath)

Note:

• Repeat in 14 days if live mites present, pruritus may occur after effective treatment

Prevention of head lice/head lice epidemics

• Apply 1% lotion x 1 for 10 minutes
• Repeat application if live lice present 7 days after initial treatment

Pediatric Dosing

• Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients <2months of age have not been established

• Discontinue the therapy If hypersensitivity occurs
• Permethrin may worsen pruritus, edema, and erythema and this may be a sign of treatment failure
• Permethrin lotion is for external use only. Eyes should be protected when rinsing hair
• Avoid using lotion near to eyes or mucous membranes as it may cause irritation
• Avoid using lotion in pediatric patients <2 months
• Breathing difficulty and asthamatic episodes may occur with permethrin
• Keep permethrin out of the reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, contact poison control center

Pregnancy Category:B

Breastfeeding: Avoid use. It is unknown whether if permethrin is excreted in human milk. Manufacturer advises decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
