• Rebound congestion can occur with prolong use of intranasal spray
• Phenylephrine nasal spray can cause stinging, burning, or drying of the nose or an increase in nasal discharge
• Sudden withdrawal of nasal spray can cause rebound congestion, hence discontinue it gradually

• Advise patient that its a short term therapy and should not be used for more than 3-5 days
• Instruct patients not to stop the therapy abruptly

Breastfeeding: Phenylephrine is unlikely to reach the infant in large amounts, as the oral bioavailability of phenylephrine is only about 40%. Oral administration of phenylephrine decreases milk production. However phenylephrine nasal spray is less likely to decrease lactation. • CV: Hypertension, palpitation, Myocardial infarction, tachyarrhythmia, ventricular arrhythmia, pulmonary edema
• CNS: Restlessness, anxiety, nervousness, weakness, dizziness, tremors, insomnia, headache
• GU: Urine retension
• RESP: Respiratory distress
• GI: Nausea
• EENT: Rebound congestion, transitory stinging on initial instillation

• Nasal decongestant; acts on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the mucosa of the respiratory tract, causing vasoconstriction and by stimulating beta2-adrenergic receptors relaxes bronchial smooth muscle
