Adult Dosing

Surgical hand antisepsis

• Apply 5 mL of 2-4% solution onto wet hands and forearms and rub into copius lather. Scrub for 3 minutes

Surgical site preparation

• Apply 2-4% solution liberally to the incision site; swab for at least 2 minutes. Dry the area with a sterile towel. Repeat this procedure for additional 2 mins and dry the skin with a sterile towel
• Avoid use on head, face and genitals

Superficial skin wound cleansing

• Rinse the area thoroughly with water; apply minimum amount of 2-4% solution and rinse again

Pediatric Dosing

• Avoid contact with eyes, ears, and oral mucosa; if accidental contact occurs, rinse with water immediately

• Repeated general skin cleansing of a large surface area is not recommended
• Chlorhexidine may cause irritation or chemical burns in premature infants or infants < 2 months of age; use with caution
• Do not use on open skin wounds or as a general skin cleanser
• Chlorhexidine liquid may stain clothing
