[Outline]
See Supplemental Patient Information
- For topical dermatological use only, not for ophthalmic, oral or intravaginal use
- Patients receiving large doses applied to a larger surface area or under occlusive dressings should be evaluated periodically for evidence of HPA axis suppression by using urinary free cortisol and ACTH stimulation tests. If HPA axis suppression is noted, decrease dose quantity/occlusion if clinically appropriate.
- Use the least amount of topical corticosteroid compatible with an effective therapeutic regimen in children, as they are more susceptible to hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression, cushing's syndrome, and intracranial hypertension because of a larger skin surface area body weight ratio
- If irritation develops, discontinue the drug and start appropriate therapy
- If dermatological infection occurs, provide appropriate antifungal or antibacterial therapy and temporarily discontinue topical corticosteroid until the infection has been adequately controlled
Cautions: Use with caution in
- Skin infection
- Diabetes mellitus
- Pediatric Population (<12 yrs: safety not established)
Supplemental Patient Information
- Advise patients not to use occlusive dressing unless directed by the physician
- Advise parents of pediatric patients not to use tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants on a child being treated in the diaper area
Pregnancy Category:C
Breastfeeding: Safety unknown; As per manufacturer data, sufficient systemic absorption following topical administration of corticosteroids results in detectable quantity in breast milk. Systemically administered corticosteroids are secreted into breast milk in quantities not likely to have deleterious effect on the infant. Manufacturer advises caution.
