Adult Dosing

Cycloplegic refraction

• Instill 1-2 gtt of 1% solution in eye(s). Repeat in five minutes, start examination within 30 mins after 2nd dose
• Peak < 30 mins, duration 2-6 hrs

Mydriasis

• Instill 1-2 gtt of 0.5% solution in eye(s) 15-20 mins prior to the examination; may repeat dose q30 min PRN
• Peak 20-40 mins, duration 6-7 hrs

Pediatric Dosing

• Safety and effectiveness in pediatric population have not been established

Hepatic Dose Adjustment

• For ophthalmic instillation only; not to be administered subconjunctivally
• Do not introduce directly into the anterior chamber of the eye
• Compress the lacrimal sac by digital pressure for 2-3 minutes after instillation to avoid excessive systemic absorption
• Darkly pigmented irides are resistant to papillary dilation; exercise caution to avoid overdosage
• Mydriasis can precipitate acute angle-closure glaucoma in susceptible individuals
• Patients should be instructed not to drive for 1-2 hours after mydriasis
• Avoid contaminating the applicator tip with material from the eye, fingers or other source
