Breastfeeding: Safety unknown; topical administration of erythromycin is acceptable in nursing mothers because of the low levels in breastmilk and safe administration directly to infants. The small amounts in milk are unlikely to cause adverse effects in the infant. This information is based upon LactMed database (available at http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT last accessed 15 December 2010). According to the manufacturer data it is not known whether this topical gel is secreted into human milk after topical application. Erythromycin is excreted in human milk following oral and parenteral erythromycin administration. Caution advised while administering to a nursing woman.
