- Avoid using for persistent or chronic cough (e.g., smoking, asthma, emphysema) or when cough is accompanied by excessive secretions. Use this drug only under medical supervision in People with high fever, rash, persistent headache, nausea, or vomiting
- Anecdotal reports of abuse may increase

- Advise patients to consult a clinician if cough persists for >1 wk or tends to recur, or is accompanied by high fever, rash, or persistent headache
- Instruct parents and caregivers to adhere to the dosage instructions and warnings on the product labeling that accompanies the preparation

Pregnancy Category:C
Breastfeeding: Neither the excretion of dextromethorphan in milk nor its effect on breastfed infants has been studied. However, this medication can be administerd to infants as young as 1 month of age. It is unlikely that with usual maternal doses amounts in milk are as higher as those given directly to infants or that breastfed infants would be harmed by the drug in breastmilk, especially in infants over 1 month of age. Avoid the use of products with high alcohol content while nursing.
