Breastfeeding: Possibly unsafe; small occasional doses are acceptable, higher doses on prolonged use may cause drowsiness and other effects in the infant or decrease production of milk particularly in combination with a sympathomimetic. • CV: Hypotension, palpitations, tachycardia, extrasystoles
• HEMA: Hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, leukopenia
• CNS: Sedation, sleepiness, dizziness, disturbed coordination, fatigue, confusion, restlessness, excitation, nervousness, tremor, irritability, insomnia, euphoria, vertigo, hysteria, neuritis, convulsions, headache, toxic psychosis, drowsiness, paradoxical CNS stimulation
• NEURO: Paresthesias
• GI: Epigastric distress, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation
• GU: Urinary frequency, difficult urination, urinary retention, early menses, dysuria, erectile dysfunction
• RESP: Thickening of bronchial secretions, tightness of chest and wheezing, nasal stuffiness
• EENT: Blurred vision, diplopia, tinnitus, labyrinthitis, dryness of mouth, nose, and throat
• DERM: Urticaria, drug rash, excessive perspiration
• MISC: Anaphylactic shock, photosensitivity, chills

• First generation antihistaminic; antagonizes central and peripheral H1 receptors
• Rapid and complete absorption
• Metabolism: Primarily metabolized by liver
• Excretion: Primarily in urine
