Adult Dosing
Acne Vulgaris
- Apply qd as a thin layer to affected areas in the evening or at bedtime after washing gently with a mild soapless cleanser
Note: Do not apply to the areas of skin around eyes, lips and mucous membranes

- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients <12 years of age have not been established

- Avoid exposure to sunlight and sunlamps during adapalene treatment. Patients with high level of sun exposure or inherent sensitivity to sun, should use sunscreen products and protective apparel (e.g. hat) when exposure cannot be avoided
- Cutaneous symptoms such as erythema, dryness, scaling, burning, pruritis may occur in the first few weeks of therapy. These symptoms lessen with continued use of the drug. Avoid exposure to sun after application
- Lotion should not be applied to cuts, abrasions, eczematous or sunburned skin; avoid use of waxing as a depilatory method
- Avoid concomitant use of other potentially irritating topical products (abrasive soaps and cleansers, soaps and cosmetics that have strong skin-drying effect and products with high concentrations of alcohol, astringents, spices, or limes)
- Anaphylactoid/anaphylactic reactions like skin rash, pruritus, hives, chest pain, edema, and shortness of breath have been reported with postmarketing use, advice patients to discontinue the drug and consult doctor if any such reactions occurs

- Concomitant use of irritating topical agents

- Avoid contact with the eyes, lips, angles of the nose, and mucous membranes
- Do not apply to cuts, abrasions, eczematous or sunburned skin
- Wax epilation should not be performed on treated skin due to the potential for skin erosions
Pregnancy Category:C
Breastfeeding: Safety unknown; however minimal systemic absorption. Serum levels are less than 0.25 mcg/L with long-term use. Application to the nipple area is not recommended. Care should be taken that infant's skin does not come into direct contact with the areas of skin that have been treated. Apply only water-miscible cream or gel products to the breast as ointment ointments may expose the infant to high levels of mineral paraffins via licking.
