Adult Dosing
Immunization against influenza virus
- Agriflu, FluLaval [>18 yrs]
- Fluzone High-Dose [>65 yrs]
- Fluzone Intradermal [18-64 yrs]
- 0.1 mL Intradermal x 1 annually
Note:
- Each 0.5-mL dose contains 15 mcg of influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA) from each of the following 3 viruses: A/California/7/2009, NYMC X-181 (H1N1); A/Victoria/210/2009, NYMC X-187 (H3N2) (an A/Perth/16/2009-like virus); and B/Brisbane/60/2008
- Fluzone High-Dose 0.5 mL contains 60 mcg of influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA) from each 3 viruses
- Fluzone Intradermal 0.1 mL contains 9 mcg of influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA) from each 3 viruses
Pediatric Dosing
Immunization against influenza virus
Fluzone
- Children 6-35 month
- 0.25 mL IM, followed by a second 0.25 mL dose after 4 weeks for those who are receiving the influenza vaccine for the first time or were vaccinated for the first time last season with only 1 dose
- 0.25 ml x1, for those who received 2 doses of any influenza vaccine last season, or at least one dose two or more years ago
- Children 36 months-8 yrs
- 0.5 mL IM x1, followed by a second 0.5 mL dose after 4 weeks for those who are receiving the influenza vaccine for the first time or were vaccinated for the first time last season with only 1 dose
- 0.5 ml x 1, for those who received 2 doses of any influenza vaccine last season, or at least one dose two or more years ago
Afluria
- Children 36 months-8 yrs
- 0.5 mL IM x1, followed by a second 0.5 mL dose after 4 weeks for those who are receiving the influenza vaccine for the first time or were vaccinated for the first time last season with only 1 dose
- 0.5 ml x 1, for those who received 2 doses of any influenza vaccine last season, or at least one dose two or more years ago
Fluarix
- Children 36 months-8 yrs

- 0.5 ml x1, for those who received 2 doses of any influenza vaccine last season, or at least one dose two or more years ago

- Persons known to have experienced Guillain-Barré syndrome within 6 wk after a previous influenza vaccination should not receive influenza virus vaccine, unless the benefit outweighs the risk
- Fever and febrile seizures have been reported in children predominantly below the age of 5 years, do not administer unless the benefit outweighs the risk
- Immunocompromised persons, including those receiving immunosuppressive therapy may have a reduced antibody response to inactivated influenza vaccine and may remain susceptible despite immunization
- Anaphylactic reactions can occur, appropriate medical treatment and supervision should be readily available to manage possible anaphylactic reactions
- Influenza vaccination may not protect all persons
- The tip of prefilled syringe contains natural rubber latex which can cause allergic reactions in latex sensitive individuals
- To avoid the risk of hematoma following the injection, use cautiously in patients with bleeding disorders such as hemophilia or on anticoagulant therapy
- Administration of another live vaccine within 4 weeks not recommended

Breastfeeding: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that vaccines given to a nursing mother does not affect breastfed infants and breastfeeding is not a contraindication to influenza vaccine.
