Adult Dosing

Vulvovaginal candidiasis

• 200 mg PV qhs for 3 days (do not use in pregnancy) or 100 mg PV qhs for 7 days
• Alt: 1 applicatorful (5 g) 1% cream inserted intravaginally qhs x7 days; or 1 applicatorful (5 g) 2% cream inserted intravaginally qhs x3 days

• For vaginal use only. Avoid contact with eyes; do not take by mouth
• Effective only in treating vaginal yeast infections
• Discontinue if high fever; pain in lower abdomen, shoulder; irritation and foul smelling vaginal discharge develops during use
• Advise patients to consult physician if symptoms do not improve in 3-7 days or re-appear within 60 days as it could be due to pregnancy, diabetes and weakened immune system
• Confirm diagnosis by KOH smears and/or cultures; if ineffective, reconfirm diagnosis before repeating therapy
• Use of contraceptive diaphragm or condoms within 3 days, or use of tampons, douches, or spermicides within 7 days is not recommended as it may result in failure to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease
