- 5-7 mg/kg PO per day in 2 divided doses x 60 days (According to CDC)
Pediatric Dosing

- (Child < 12 years): 10 mg/kg per day orally in 2 divided doses for 60 days (According to CDC)

Note: Not FDA approved and is available only from CDC under investigational protocols.
- Benznidazole should not be used concurrently with alcohol; accumulation of acetaldehyde may lead to disulfiram-like effects causing extreme discomfort such as abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, headache, or flushing
- Concurrent use with aspirin may increase the risk of bleeding
- When used concurrently with anticoagulants, coumarin-derivatives, such as warfarin the effect of the drug may be potentiated
- Benznidazole may rarely decrease the concentration of leukocytes and platelets; closely monitor CBC
- Adverse Reactions then to be more frequent and severe with increasing age

Pregnancy Category: Unknown; World Health Organization (WHO) prescribing information does not recommend the use of benznidazole during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Breastfeeding: It is not known whether benznidazole is distributed into breast milk; caution advised
