Pregnancy/Breast Feeding

Pregnancy Category:X

Breastfeeding: Safety unknown; no formal studies for the use of topical tretinoin during breastfeeding have been conducted. Due to minimal systemic absorption following topical administration, it is considered a low risk to the nursing infant. Infant's skin should not come in direct contact with the areas of the skin that have been treated. Apply only water-miscible cream products to the breast because ointments may expose the infant to high levels of mineral paraffins via licking. This information is based upon LactMed database (available at http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT last accessed 22 December 2010). Manufacturer advises caution while applying mequinol/tretinoin to nursing woman.
